1st January Deal? Wenger Targets Signing £53.5m Rated Manchester United Target

The last three games Arsenal have played in all competition have clearly shown that Arsenal could do with another technically gifted player like Santi Cazorla. However, it appears Wenger is more interested in bolstering other areas as reports claim Arsenal are one of the many clubs interested in signing highly rated Porto central midfielder/winger Otavio.

Although Arsenal have tons of central midfielders – Ramsey, Iwobi, Chamberlain, Xhaka and many others, there is no one single player who is capable of truly replacing Cazorla in our midfielder. Which is why the reported move for Otavio is quite weird especially as we have Ozil, Chamberlain, Iwobi, Ramsey and others who are able to play the central attacking midfield role for Arsenal well.

Transfer Market Web ( as reported by daily star ) reckons Wenger is ready to battle the likes of Manchester United, Juventus and Dortmund for the signature of Otavio who is currently on the books of FC Porto of Portugual. The Brazilian reportedly has a release clause which is valued at £53.5m which Arsenal and or any other club interested in signing the player will have to activate if they want to stand a chance of signing the player.

Otavio joined Porto in 2014 from Brazilian clubside Internacional. He arrived for a reported 2m fee. He scored six goals and created nine assists in 25 games last season for Porto which is quite impressive for a player who was often in and out of the team due to rotation. He has however become a regular for the club so far this season and has scored two goals and created six assists in 16 games, an indication that his form last season wasn’t a fluke.

Porto are certainly not going to sell him cheap which in my opinion knocks Arsenal out. The Wenger that I know is certainly not going to pay £53.5m for a relatively unknown player such as Otavio. And we honestly do not need to as we are better of signing players to other areas than the attacking midfield role.

If we have a £53.5m to spend on a single player in January, by all means spend it on a wing forward or a proper striker like Icardi or a player who is able to play the false nine role such as Marco Reus.

Or maybe Wenger sees otavio as a likely replacement for Cazorla? After all Cazorla himself was playing in the Ozil role before he joined Arsenal and has been turned to a very good central midfielder at Arsenal.
