Olivier Giroud and Mathieu Debuchy have both been ruled out for the encounter against Southampton on Wednesday night but a host of new faces are set to feature.
Arsenal will be looking to seal their place in the semi finals of the EFL Cup by beating Southampton on Wednesday night and the Gunners will be trying to do so with an extremely youthful looking side.
A host of first team regulars such as Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi are expected to be handed rests during the encounter while other senior players Olivier Giroud and Mathieu Debuchy, who were touted to start – will not be doing so due to injury problems.
As a huge positive though, Lucas Perez has made a quicker than anticipated return to full fitness and the Spanish attacker should be leading the line for the Gunners during the encounter.
Emiliano Martinez will continue in goal during the EFL Cup and the Argentine custodian is likely to be shielded by a youthful looking defence consisting of Carl Jenkinson and Rob Holding as well as Gabriel Paulista and Kieran Gibbs.
Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Krystian Bielik have widely been touted to start in the midfield areas but they will be facing competition from established first teamers such as Aaron Ramsey, Alex Iwobi and Francis Coquelin.
The other notable youngsters who trained with the first team ahead of the clash are Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Marc Bola, Ismael Bennacer and Stephy Mavididi and it would not be a surprise if the quartet is rewarded with a place on the squad by Wenger.
Mavididi in particular will be hopeful of a place due to the fact that Olivier Giroud has been ruled out for the encounter due to injury and the 18-year-old could be an alternative option for Wenger to choose from in attack if Perez fails to impress.
