Arsenal are set to announce the signing of centre-back Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia today. It is public knowledge now that we have agreed a £35 million deal with the La Liga club for the German international, and he has reportedly completed his medical with us earlier today.
The latest information comes from Sky Germany reporter Marc Behrenbeck who has claimed on his Twitter account that we are set to announce the signing later very soon.

As we have previously reported, our move for the 24-year-old centre-back is almost a done deal and the only thing left now is an official announcement from the club.
Valencia manager Pako Ayestaran yesterday addressed the move and accepted that Los Che had accepted a new bid from us. Even our manager Arsene Wenger talked about the incoming German in his press conference yesterday: “I think (Mustafi) will be a good player but time will tell. He had three years at Everton, he went to Italy, to Spain but at 17 years of age, it is a difficult age to play centre-back in the Premier League. He was Valencia’s captain. If we get it done, we get what we wanted.”
Now, at this point, only a cynical would think that this move could still fall through. It is quite clear that it is more of a case of ‘if’ then ‘when’.
We are also playing Watford today, so one would think that any potential announcement will keep the game in mind.
So, I guess that either we will announce the deal during the late hours today or tomorrow. Now, obviously, my guess is based on the assumption that the 24-year-old has already passed his medical with us today.
The entire Arsenal fan base, including me, is quite excited about the signing and can’t wait to see Mustafi in the red and white. However, we will have to wait until September 10 when we face Southampton at Emirates Stadium.
I think, in Mustafi, we have signed a highly talented centre-back who is capable of marshalling our defence for years to come.
It has been quite evident that Per Mertesacker has declined in recent years, and Gabriel is yet to convince after one and a half years at the club.
Mustafi will look to cement his place in the centre of our defence next to Laurent Koscielny this season. I expect the partnership of both these defenders to become a regular fixture in our starting eleven this season.
Some might complain the price tag attached with the player, but it’s approximately the same amount Manchester United paid for Eric Baily earlier this season and the following stat suggests that we have got the better deal.
Mustafi is over-priced but Bailly was a marquee signing. Okay, English media. pic.twitter.com/R1FXmHWQQB
