‘Every Cloud has a Cazorla Lining’ – Our season to date as an ‘Old Wife’s Tale.’

A bit of fun today as ‘1nildown1oneup brings you are review of the summer and the season to date with a difference. The season told as an old wife’s tale. Look out for a proverb or saying or two!!

Money does not come into it!!

It was a summer of comings and goings with 3 big new signings and 2 acrimonious departures. What can I say other than sometimes a picture does not paint a thousand words?

No voice inside back then?

I would say to Alex Ferguson a fool and his money is soon parted. And to his club he that goes a-borrowing goes a-sorrowing.

A club built on debt – A house of cards?

We know you changed you mind and wanted to stay but sorry RVP every man has his price. Never mind because all good things must come to an end. From our perspective here’s hoping that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence. Bottom line is Robin you bit the hand that fed you and when you spoke out on your website, well better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. So good luck ex-hero I can safely say that neither absence nor distance make the heart grow fonder. Best you stay scoring and stay fit because with Rooney and Welbeck around it could well be a case of two’s company and three’s a crowd.

Badly advised and stupidity revealed Robin

Farewell too to Alex Song. You became too big for your boots old son and we have too many quality players who did want to play for our great club and without the attititude. You know what they say, one volunteer is worth 10 pressed men. Particularly when that volunteer is Mikel Arteta. Fast becoming a legend what can you say about our perfect Spaniard, as he moves seamlessly to a deep midfield role other than you can teach and old dog new tricks. I said it last year about Rosicky and I will say the same about Arteta, there’s many a good tune played on an old fiddle. (Particularly I assume if the fiddle is Mozart?)

Old Dogs playing new fiddles MA8 and TR7?

So after the storm came the calm or perhaps it is always darkest before the dawn. Anyway August 2012 a new dawn and a new day for our great club this season. Those who did not want to be here or those we did not want here, are mostly gone which is crucial as a house divided against itself cannot stand. Wenger has learned because those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. He has brought in quality and experience the past 2 summers disproving one old wife’s tale and confirming another. With Podolski at around £10 million and Cazorla at £15m he has once again disproved that if you pay peanuts you only get monkeys whilst acknowledging that experience is the father of wisdom.

Paid peanuts for an experienced Poldi Monkey & a quality Santi Monkey

So the new broom has swept clean but what does the new season hold for Arsenal and us supporters. In the past we suffered from a lack of depth and we learned to our cost that our chain was only as strong as its weakest link. In 2012 the weaknesses are not so evident. We have the squad, we have the team spirit and we have the work ethic. In short in union we find strength. We no longer play as if attack is the best form of defence and we no longer rely on one man. The addition of Bould and Banfield perhaps brings recognition that genius is one percent inspiration and ninety nine percent perspiration. We are working hard on our defending and it is very true that diligence is the mother of good fortune.

Hard work brings its own good fortune!

Mighty oaks from small acorns grow but we have been here before. Patience has been our virtue as we remind ourselves that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Rome was not built in a day but perhaps our Rome is close to completion after 8 years in construction. We must not be complacent as we have had false dawns before. However this feels somehow different but to continue the Roman theme we must learn from our mistakes and beware the ides of March. We would not wish to see our team fail on all fronts again this spring. So in the New Year come on lads stick together, when the going gets tough the tough get going and I just have a feeling April showers will bring May flowers. Or perhaps even a ‘Yellow Ribbon?

She wore a yellow ribbon in the merry month of May.
She said it’s for the Arsenal and we’re going to Wembley

So my message to all Gooners is that all good things come to he who waits and we have waited patiently. Oh that and ‘every cloud has a Cazorla lining.’ Every cloud has a Silva lining with never catch on!

Until next time thanks for reading.

  4. haha a fun read, and nice approach to bring a change from the usual stuff. Although, i can see why you are not satisfied with the writeup and it think its coz it does not have a concrete point to make at the end. thats about the only critique I have

  5. “Rome was not built in a day and after 8yrs we are about completing our Rome”. Powerful & inspiring words from Dave. Can’t get a better post for a boring international break.

  6. Loved it Dave, will keep some of those lines in mind for futre referance. Top read as usual. Thanks very much

  7. Such a well written piece of read Dave, simply I was thinking Shakespeare who?
Any way who am I to comment on something as good as this.

Bestfriends has 11 letters, but so does Backstabber…..robin knows what am talking about. Arsenal now have been bestfriends of 11, backstabber has moved to northern cold city. Wont be sorry to know if judas broke his knee/ankle/metatarcle/fibia/tibula/neck in international break or for mannure. I know am being a bit off topic but my emotions has to flow somewhere.

    Thanks Dave!
