Arsenal won’t be in action for next couple of weeks, and there is nothing to look forward to in the transfer window, as we have most likely concluded out business in the market.
So there is not much to do at the moment if you are an Arsenal fan. Hence, there is not much to talk about at the moment, but we can always speculate about the shirt numbers our new signings going to pick following their arrivals.
Shkodran Mustafi, who has joined us from Valencia, used to wear number 5 for his previous club. However, that number is currently occupied by Gabriel Paulista, and I don’t think we will be taking it off the Brazilian in the mid-season.
Mustafi wears number 2 for the German national team, and I am sure that he is going to wear the same number with us.
Mathieu Debuchy currently occupies the 2 number jersey for us, but he is more than likely to leave the club before the transfer window shuts down on 31st. Recent reports have suggested that the Frenchman could be leaving on a permanent deal this time.
Another option that is available is number 9, but that’s a big no for a defensive player. If Calum Chambers leaves on a loan move, then 21 is also expected to be available. However, there is a clear winner between 2 and 21, so we should expect to see Mustafi in a number 2 jersey next season.
Our next signing Lucas Perez also has an obvious choice to make. As I mentioned before that the number 9 is available ever since Podolski departed from the club, and I expect the Spaniard to wear the same with us.
However, there is a sort of bad-luck charm associated with this number at our club, and Olivier Giroud reportedly turned down the number because of it. So, it will be interesting to see if Perez decides to go with it.
Here’s hoping that the Spaniard break number 9 hoodoo for us.
