We have been linked with PSV Eindhoven youngster Matthias Verreth in the transfer market. Italian outlet CalcioMercato.com claims that we are keeping tabs on the young Belgian talent and are considering a move for him.
The 18-year-old made his debut for PSV’s reserve team Jong PSV last season in the second division of Dutch football. He has made six appearances in Eerste Divisie this season. He was also a key member of the Belgium U17 squad that reached the semi-finals of the Under 17 European Championships back in 2014/15.
Verreth is primarily a right winger, but can also play on the opposite wing. He has been likened with his compatriot Dries Mertens and Robin Van Persie in the media.
The report claims that we have already sent scouts to watch him play in Holland. The report also claims that we are not the only club interested in the player. He has attracted interests from some the major European clubs, primarily AC Milan.
So, it appears that we will be battling with AC Milan for his signature. Only if we are interested him in the first place. Now that’s a big ‘only if’.
The player also has a contract until 2019 with the Dutch club, and his contract also includes an option for one additional year. That might weaken our hand in any kind of negotiations for the player in future.
However, as I stated above, I am not quite sure how much we are interested in this player. We see a new player linked to use every day. It’s only logical to assume that we, like every big club, keep track of all the talented upcoming stars, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that we are going to buy each and every one as soon as the transfer window opens next time.
To be honest, I never heard of Verreth before this transfer rumour appeared. And I probably won’t again until a new transfer rumour pops up sometime in future.
