Arsenal have before the last five years lost key players to clubs such as Manchester United, Barca and Manchester City due mainly because Arsenal was not winning titles and do not have the financial capacity to match the aforementioned clubs’ wage offers.
Players such as Nasri, Adebayor, Van Persie, Clichy and many others left us for mostly the offer of bigger wages from other clubs. Fortunately for us, that time is gone and Arsenal now have money to spend again and do not have to be forced to sell their players.
In the last few weeks, especially during the summer transfer window, Arsenal youngster Hector Bellerin who was formerly on the books of Barca was linked with a move back to Barca. This got many Arsenal fans including my very self scared. The fear was based on the fact that Barca are far more attractive than Arsenal and despite our new found wealth, they are still able to afford their targets more money than us.
However, Barca have failed in their bid to sign Bellerin and rather than leaving Arsenal with his contract running down, the Spaniard has reportedly put pen to paper on a new contract with Arsenal.
Although this news hasn’t been confirmed by Arsenal.com or any other major media outlet but Arseblog are quite big in the Arsenal blogging world and also very reliable with their transfer stories. They are reporting Bellerin has signed a new contract which if true will put an end to all the speculations linking him with a move to Barca.
Reports earlier this week had claimed the Spaniard has been offered a new contract worth £100,000 a week which will see him remain at Arsenal for another five years. Although the report by Times claim Bellerin will reject the contract but Arseblog reckons he has actually signed the said contract and will remain at Arsenal till 2021.
