A short and to the point piece today, which like the Ramsey article earlier in the week is a suggestion for next season. Again it is a suggestion with an historical precedent under Wenger and this particular idea would improve the team and simultaneously save us around £15 million.
Two players who we have been continually linked to us both last summer and again recently have been M’Vila and Vertonghen. I have made my feelings fairly clear on the French defensive midfielder and I feel the £25 million asking price too much to pay for the potential to step up to the EPL, when we have a crowded central midfield squad. Whilst I am happy with Song, Arteta and Coquelin as holding midfielders I am perhaps in the minority and many of you feel we do need to invest in a specialist defensive midfielder. Indeed today the Telegraph suggested we are in talks with Bilbao over their Defensive midfielder, Javier Martinez. I am however more readily persuaded that £10 million for the versatile Belgium, Jan Vertonghen but not necessarily as a Centre Back. Continue reading
